Viagra's maker Pfizer is trying to sell it to consumers in the U. S., where it has been a hit.
Pfizer Inc. is making a big move, in part because the drugmaker is looking to get the green light to sell Viagra as a treatment for impotence, a new drug, or ED.
Pfizer will pay about $4.7 billion to settle lawsuits filed by plaintiffs who say Pfizer improperly marketed the drug, which treats erectile dysfunction in men by increasing blood flow to the penis and is also sold under the brand name Levitra.
The case involves a product called Viagra. The plaintiffs claim Pfizer violated the anti-trust laws of the United States by promoting Viagra for the treatment of impotence.
The plaintiffs said they believe the drug is safe and that the Viagra maker is not making a profit by selling it to consumers.
The Pfizer plaintiffs said Pfizer's conduct is "illegal and unethical," according to a statement from Pfizer.
Viagra is a prescription drug sold under the brand name Levitra. It was first approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003 and is also sold over the counter as Vardenafil, or "Vardenafil" in some cases.
Viagra was the first approved for impotence in the United States and the drug was first marketed by Pfizer in 1998.

Coupled with the potential for generic competition, Levitra would be available to customers from Monday's delivery to customers in Britain from 5 p.m. until 5 p.m.
Levitra will be available in a box of four at a pharmacy in the United Kingdom and in a pack of four at an online pharmacy in the United States.
A Levitra tablet of 4.5 mg, made by Bayer, would cost a total of £9.75 a bottle of the drug. It is available on a prescription from a doctor.
The company has said it plans to offer Levitra from April 30 to June 30.

But the drugmaker is also looking to retain a small share of the profits that would be made from Levitra.

It is not clear how much money would be made from the product in the United States, which is expected to see a market share decline after its expiration in the spring of 2015.
